Steamboat Springs is commonly known as Ski Town USA and Bike Town USA but dog enthusiasts have coined a new moniker: Dog Town USA!
Steamboat Digs Dogs, a local non-profit has been working tirelessly to secure off-leash areas and promote safe spaces for our furry friends. Rita Valentine Dog Park, located off of Anglers Drive, is free and open to the public. Several trails wrap around the park, giving walkers plenty of options to stretch and admire the uninterrupted views of Mount Werner and the Yampa Valley.
Lower Spring Creek Trail is a short, off-leash stretch, running behind Memorial Fields and the Steamboat Springs High School on Maple Street. Dogs are free to run and swim in the pond at Spring Creek Park, which is clearly marked.
For a good workout and optimum views of the Yampa Valley, try Blackmere Road, which winds its way up Emerald Mountain. The dirt road is marked as a leash free zone, but trails feeding outwards are on-leash only.
Many of the stores in town welcome dogs and will reward good behavior with a treat. Food, supplies, toys and general information are available at Paws ‘N Claws, Ace at the Curve and Outdoor K9.
Steamboat Dog Spa, Powder Hounds Grooming Salon and Tail Blazers Pet Grooming can restore a once pristine pooch back to its former glory after a day spent exploring the woods and wonders of Steamboat.
