Untracked powder, no crowds and the chance to cruise through aspen groves where the only sound is that of your skis – that’s what Steamboat Powdercats is all about. Started in 1983, Powdercats have been guiding guests around the Buffalo Pass region of Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest for over 30 years. Guests spend a full day in the backcountry racking up between eight to 16 runs over 8,000 to 14,000 vertical feet.
Skiers and snowboarders have the choice of three levels of terrain with level three geared towards the ultimate adrenaline inducing experience. Guests travel in heated snowcats and ski on Armada fat skis or ride on Never Summer snowboards. Each of the three designated guides per cat will suggest a line then let you loose to forge your own trail. Forget stressing over selfies as the in-house photographer has a knack of being in the right place at the right time. For those who don’t want the day to end, opt for an alpenglow experience. In February and March, guests can buy an extra hour on snow with an après ski party and dinner in the woods at the Powdercat cabin.
